Meta has began testing two features that will further link Facebook and Instagram and will also give users the ability to switch between accounts on both social media platforms via a new profile switching tool.
Meta revealed earlier on Monday that it has began rolling out a new interface for switching between Instagram and Facebook accounts on Android, iOS, and the web.
Any User who links their Facebook and Instagram profiles using Meta’s integrated profile portal, the Accounts Center, will be able to switch between them. When logged into one app, users can effortlessly switch between Instagram and Facebook using the profile menu, which displays any connected accounts.
The new Facebook and Instagram account switcher will display all of the accounts and profiles that a user has added to the Accounts Center. While Instagram has always allowed its users to navigate between several profiles, the new system will also include Facebook profiles.
On Android and iOS, Meta is also delivering a new login and onboarding experience. If a user is new to the company’s social media platforms, they can set up one account and then utilize it to set up another. Users who currently have both Facebook and Instagram accounts may now use the login credentials connected with one app to access the other, however they must first add both to the same Accounts Center.
“We know that many people use more than one of our apps to pursue different interests, reach a broader audience or share different aspects of who they are with different groups of people,” said Robert d’Apice, director of product management at Meta. “With that in mind, we’re simplifying the process of creating and switching between accounts and profiles” he added.
Accounts Center was developed by the company two years ago in an attempt to speed up access to profile logins and recovery, cross-posting, and making digital purchases without having to return to your phone’s home screen, multitasking menu, or app drawer.
